Without a place to store their crops, farmers were forced to sell immediately after harvest when prices are lowest. A communal grain storage building, again built with self-made bricks and the labor of the villagers, allows them to store their harvest of rice and corn safely.

Making the bricks: As a corner stone
of Zahana’s approach villagers contribute their labor and locally
available materials to all the projects. The bricks for the school and
the communal rice storage facility were made by the villagers on site.
